Forty expatriates attended an event hosted by China Retold. The event at the Hong Kong African Centre on February 13 featured self-introductions, a taste of authentic African cuisine, and an open discussion about life in Hong Kong, allowing participants to gain a deeper appreciation of the city’s diversity.  

The event kicked off with introductions, helping attendees connect on a personal level before diving into an immersive cultural experience. Edwin from the UK shared his thoughts, saying, “Hong Kong is truly an international city, where people from different backgrounds can connect and share experiences. This event reinforced my appreciation for the city’s unique blend of cultures, and I look forward to sharing what I’ve learned with my friends back home.”  

Haggai from Kenya praised Hong Kong’s inclusivity, remarking, “Hong Kong is a land of opportunities where people from all walks of life can find a sense of belonging. This event demonstrated how cultural exchanges can bring people together, regardless of their backgrounds. I hope to see more initiatives like this in the future to foster deeper mutual understanding.”

Meanwhile, Ronnie from Iceland highlighted Hong Kong’s diversity and openness. “Meeting people from different countries and hearing their stories made me realise how incredibly vibrant this city is. Hong Kong’s openness to different cultures makes it a truly unique place.”  

Legislative Council Member and China Retold Coalition Convenor, Dominic Lee, emphasised the significance of such events in strengthening Hong Kong’s global narrative. “Through initiatives like this, we aim to showcase Hong Kong’s openness, vibrancy, and cultural diversity to the world. Every interaction is an opportunity to share Hong Kong’s story, and we encourage participants to become ambassadors of the city’s unique identity.”
